Amy Hagedorn

Amy Hagedorn is retired from a twenty-three year early childhood teaching career, having initiated the Pre-kindergarten programs at St. Aloysius Church in Great Neck in 1973 and at the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park public schools in 1985. Amy was graduated cum laude from The Baruch School at the City University of New York and earned a masters degree at Queens College, also CUNY.

Amy is former President of the board of Sustainable Long Island. She also sits on the boards of The North Shore LIJ Health System and The Partnership for After School Education, while serving on the board of the Brookville Center for Children's Services, a collaborative effort of the Association for the Help of Retarded Children and North Shore LIJ Health System.

She is the widow of Horace Hagedorn, the founder of Miracle-Gro plant food. Horace and Amy shared ten children, twenty-nine grandchildren and, at latest count, five great-grandchildren.
