Accomplishments

With your help and support, in 2008 Sustainable Long Island:

• Facilitated the approval of Middle Country's Sustainable Community Plan by the Town and County with overwhelming political support. This plan united the communities of Selden and Centereach and identifies solutions to one of New York’s deadliest roads, Middle Country Road (Route 25)

• Protected various Bellport properties in the community from county auction two times so that the community would have the opportunity to collaborate on and determine the future of the land as it relates to their vision for Greater Bellport

• Strengthened the infrastructure of the Roosevelt Community Revitalization Group to create a unified agenda to advance revitalization

• Completed the Greater Bellport Sustainable Community Plan, identifying opportunities for economic development in Long Island’s fourth most distressed community.

• Held the Second Annual Sustainability Conference and Fall Breakfast Series introducing hundreds of Long Islanders from diverse professions to learn about creating a more sustainable region

• Successfully advocated for brownfield law reforms that have streamlined the clean-up process, increasing efficiency and accountability
