On Wednesday, February 15, 2017 Sustainable Long Island held a Complete Streets Focus Group Meeting at the Roosevelt Fire House as a part of our Creating Healthy Schools and Communities grant. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Roosevelt Union Free School District, Western Suffolk BOCES, Hofstra University, NuHealth, Choice for All, the Roosevelt Community Revitalization Group (RCRG), Memorial Presbyterian Church, and residents of Roosevelt. The evening began with an introductory presentation about the our grant and the concept of “Complete Streets.” This was followed by smaller, facilitated focus group activities where participants provided invaluable feedback on issues of walkability, complete streets, and access to parks and green spaces in the community. This feedback is being used by Sustainable Long Island to approach municipalities and elected officials when looking to address and find solutions to the identified concerns and problem areas.
Refreshments were generously provide by Teddy’s Kitchen Catering (Bethpage) and Delicious Moments (Baldwin), while World Centric provided sustainable paper products for the evening.
